Honouring Tradition While Redesigning Heating and Energy Efficiency at Foxcote House

As part of a long-term client relationship, ABEC delivered an upgrade to the heating and energy management system at the 18th century Foxcote House in Warwickshire.

ABEC worked closely with mechanical and electrical contractor Lowe & Oliver, which has carried out work on many similar historic buildings. The upgrade has delivered improved control over the heating and hot water system and enabled greater energy efficiency for the property.

The upgrade of the Grade II listed property included new boilers, pump and pressurisation unit as well as a new Building Management System (BMS) control panel and field devices on the installed equipment. ABEC provides ongoing maintenance and energy management services to the site and was therefore the natural choice for the upgrade.

One of ABEC’s core capabilities is this type of retrofit project where a new BMS system is installed to provide greater visibility and control of a buildings energy usage. A BMS from Cylon, one of ABEC’s key system suppliers, was selected for Foxcote House.

The Cylon BMS monitors energy consumption, helps improve operational efficiency and ensures occupant comfort. Using open protocols and standards, it can also integrate with various building systems including lighting and security to provide a single point of control.

ABEC designed and constructed a new BMS enclosure equipped with Cylon controllers to manage the heating and hot water for the main house boiler plant room.

The team also installed an additional enclosure to regulate flow and temperature for the new Plate Heat Exchangers.

Additionally, the engineers created a new BMS graphic and developed new software to control all the new main plants.

Tristan Lee, the Project Manager at ABEC said:

“The Foxcote House project demonstrates how we can deliver the benefits of modern BMS technology to a wide range of buildings, including 18th century country houses. Given our ongoing work on the site, our team was already familiar with the specifics of the heating and energy system at Foxcote House and was able to recommend the most suitable BMS solution.”
