Meet the team – Joe Pinder
On the next stop in our Meet the Team series, we catch up with long-term ABEC team member Joe Pinder.
Can you tell us a bit about your role and when you joined ABEC?
I am a Regional Manager covering the London area, and have been with ABEC for seven years. London is a region that has its fair share of challenging and interesting projects for a wide range of clients, so there is always something new.
What do you enjoy most about working for ABEC?
What I truly appreciate about working for ABEC is the people and the culture. We are a company where hard work, teamwork and great customer service is recognised and rewarded. Also, I’ve always felt that our team has great depth of knowledge, which gives us confidence that we can solve any issue and meet all customer requirements.
What is your proudest achievement?
I’m very proud of the way I’ve been able to progress in my career. My journey at ABEC has been a rewarding one. I started as a BMS Operator in 2017 and I have since taken on a variety of roles. Today, I’m proud to manage my own region and oversee a team of 18 direct line reports.
What have been your highlights whilst working at ABEC?
I’ve enjoyed my time working overseas on projects. I travelled to many different countries and experienced lots of different cultures – one of the benefits of working for a business with an international reach.
What are the main challenges you face day to day?
The volume of work can be challenging, as our services are much in demand and rightly each client wants to feel they are prioritised. It can be a challenge to ensure everyone’s needs are met without delay, but I can always count on the support and expertise of my colleagues to help achieve what we need to.
Why do you think clients choose to work with ABEC?
It may sound simple, but I believe clients choose ABEC because we provide a great level of service; we always go above and beyond. For data centre clients, which have very specific BMS needs, we are the partner of choice because we have a proven track record and a long-established reputation for excellence in this environment. Also, one of ABEC’s biggest strengths is that we have managed to keep a small business feel despite the company’s impressive growth over the last 20 years. I think that is something that helps us when working with clients.
What changes do you expect to see in the BEMS sector in the next 10 years?
AI is going to have a huge impact on the BEMS sector, with its use already finding its way into the design aspects of numerous projects. I believe that AI will become the primary software tool driving the design of all BEMS projects, regardless of scale.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy watching motorsport, both at the track and on the TV.
If you weren’t working for ABEC, what would be your dream job?
A race mechanic for an F1 team, traveling the globe and working on the best cars in the world.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’ve never been to Japan. It is a country with so much to explore as well as a diverse and unique culture.
Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
I have twice completed the 100-mile Ride London cycle event. Both times I have raised money for the charity Tommy’s, which supports those who have lost babies and funds vital research into the causes and prevention of pregnancy and birth complications. It is a very worthy cause and one that is close to my heart, so I’m pleased to have been able to raise £1,000 so far for the charity.
