Meet the team – Jakub Walkow

Next up in our Meet the Team series is Jakub Walkow, one of our European Project Managers. From data centres to dancefloors, Jakub brings energy and expertise to everything he does.

Can you tell us a bit about your role and how long you have been with ABEC?

I joined ABEC over two years ago, following six years’ experience in building automation and BMS integration in Poland. At ABEC, my role involves managing major projects across Europe in collaboration with our clients, including some of the biggest and fastest growing businesses in their sectors.

What do you enjoy most about working for ABEC?

ABEC is a business where you have the opportunity to grow and develop your skills in line with your career goals. In a more general sense, my role at ABEC allows me to work in one of the most fascinating and quickly evolving areas in the built environment sector.

What is your proudest achievement so far?

I am particularly proud to be part of a monumental data centre project in Paris. It’s a truly ambitious undertaking, requiring the integration of complex systems and technologies. When completed this facility will provide cutting edge digital infrastructure for a wide range of critical IT systems.

On a personal level, one of the highlights of my career with ABEC has been becoming a line manager. I am delighted to be able to help those in my team to develop and thrive.

Why do you think clients choose to work with ABEC?

As a business we have over 20 years’ experience in a wide range of sectors working with clients of all types from universities to financial institutions to data centres. This, alongside the reputation that ABEC has built for going the extra mile, means clients know they can rely on us to deliver projects, regardless of the challenges.

What do you think is ABEC’s biggest strength?

I believe it is our in-depth knowledge of the sectors we work in and how to deploy the right solutions to always meet clients’ requirements.

What sets ABEC apart from its competitors?

More than anything else, I think it is our quality of our work. We care deeply about ensuring we always achieve the highest standards for our clients. When faced with challenges, we always try to step up and do what is required rather than make excuses.

What makes a good client/supplier relationship?

Communication is the key. It enables better collaboration between those involved in a project, which will always contribute to better outcomes. Good communication also allows potential problems to be identified and addressed proactively before they impact the project as a whole.

What changes do you expect to see in the BEMS sector in the next 10 years?

Building control and automation has never been more important given the challenges of rising energy costs and the need to decarbonise. I believe our sector will see significant and rapid growth in the coming years. Looking at where we were 10 years ago, it will be interesting to see where we will be in another 10.

When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

I am never happier than when I’m outside. I love walks with my wife and dogs, and I am a keen gardener in my spare time.

If you weren’t working for ABEC, what would be your dream job?

If I could do anything, I would be a pilot. I love to fly.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

For me it is simple, I would love to be anywhere that is wild and unexplored. There is nothing better than being out in the beauty of nature.

Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?

I have to admit, I have a unique dancing style. At weddings and parties, you can always spot me on the dancefloor!
