Meet the team – Daniel Mead
Up next in our meet the team series, we catch up with our incredible Key Account Manager, Daniel Mead.
Can you tell us how long you have been with ABEC and a bit about your role?
I joined ABEC in early 2024. My role includes a number of areas such as building long-term client relationships by ensuring customer satisfaction, working alongside project managers to coordinate projects and identifying opportunities to expand our services.
What do you enjoy most about working for ABEC?
I think it’s the friendly and collaborative atmosphere, which was one of the first things I noticed about the business. Another really important factor is the support and guidance that we’re given to ensure we can excel in our roles, it’s been really refreshing. But also from an external perspective, I really enjoy building long-term partnerships with clients, that’s why I do what I do after all! And as ABEC truly prioritises looking after their clients and building that trust for the long haul, it’s a great fit.
What have been your highlights whilst working at ABEC?
I’m very proud to say that this year I was awarded Managed Services salesperson of the year, having exceeded my targets. I feel this is an excellent achievement in my first year with the business. I’ve also really enjoyed attending events as a team and as a company, to feel connected with the wider business and have some fun at the same time!
What are the main challenges you face day to day?
In such a competitive industry I would say one of the biggest challenges is winning new clients to help the business grow. ABEC’s longstanding reputation in the sector gives myself and my colleagues a good foundation, but it still requires hard work and dedication.
Why do you think clients choose to work with ABEC?
I think its two key factors. The first is that it is an industry understandably driven by cost, and we can prove that we offer real value and we go the extra mile to show it. The second is that good communication is one of our core values and is practiced in everything we do. Ensuring clients are always well informed and that there is a free flow of information in both directions is a big part of the success ABEC has enjoyed for over 20 years.
What do you think is ABEC’s biggest strength?
It is undoubtedly our staff. Since joining ABEC I have seen real dedication to customer service and doing whatever it takes to meet our clients’ needs time and time again. Our strong teams both on the ground and behind the scenes is what sets us apart from our competitors.
What makes a good client/supplier relationship?
I believe it’s based on three key elements. It’s firstly essential to fully understand the client’s business and their requirements. The next is that you must deliver what you set out to, regardless of the challenges that might be faced – clients need to trust that you won’t let them down. Third is communication. A good relationship cannot be built without an effective and ongoing dialogue.
What changes do you expect to see in the BEMS sector in the next 10 years?
I think we will see a real increase in the use of smart technology and new forms of communication in building systems. Given the drive towards net zero, there will be greater attention on energy and sustainability in buildings, for which BEMS will have a central role.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
For me it’s all about spending time with the family, a bit of fishing and of course finding time to watch the football.
If you weren’t working for ABEC, what would be your dream job?
I’d say it would be a choice between being a game designer or a professional photographer.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could choose anywhere, it would have to be Tahiti.
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
I’m a sucker for tattoos and now have many!
