‘Centre of Excellence’ gets a new TREND BMS to match
A large office and training facility in Oldbury for a national emergency service provider has had a full TREND BMS upgrade, inclusive of the latest IQ Vision head end. Particular emphasis from the initial stage was on enhancement not just replacement.
The Oldbury site is home to a national emergency service provider state of the art new technical training facility and has been maintained by ABEC for a number of years. We were approached by the client to replace the existing ‘obsolete’ system with Trend BMS to bring in line with their other sites around the UK.
ABEC consulted with the client, who was keen for this not to be just a replacement project but an opportunity to include enhancements in terms of both control / monitoring & energy consumption.
The works involved controller replacements within 4 main MCC panels and 16 riser panels. The existing operation was re-designed to provide better control and improved energy efficiency.
IQ Vision was installed on the front end, to ensure the building has the latest technology available.
The existing BMS had to remain operational while the new Trend was installed. With elements of the client’s business operating out-of-hours (both weekend days and weekends) plant downtime had to be managed closely. A live building presents various challenges to a project team. Various occupants worked in different areas during different times of the day, meaning there was never any full down time, and areas such as the kitchen had to be carefully programmed to ensure there was no impact to operations.
The works were phased and delivered over several months, ensuring the LTHW plant was completed prior to the winter season, and the CHW works were carried out during the winter period to minimise impact to the live building. ABEC had to be flexible in carrying out works during weekends, evenings or nights to ensure that the building and its staff could continue to operate while the upgrade works took place.
A number of remedial / recommendations were carried out following the upgrades both mechanically and through the BMS software to ensure the building runs efficiently during the 24/7 operation.
- ABEC upgraded the existing ‘obsolete’ BEMS with the latest range of IQ4 Trend controls.
- Additional works and enhancements were also added to improve the current control and energy usage.
- A new Ethernet backbone network was installed to accommodate the Trend.
- A new Trend IQVision system provided clean & modern front-end graphics.
